When the Universe whispers……..

Magical Hummingbird – watercolour20180610_130630-1

“I think midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear:

I’m not screwing around.  It’s time.   All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt, has to go.

Your amour is preventing you from growing into your gifts.   I understand that you needed these protections when you were small,  I understand that you believed the armour could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy of love and belonging, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever.

Time is growing short.    There are unexplored adventures ahead of you.   You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think.    You were born worth of love and belonging.    Courage and daring are coursing through you.   You were made to live and love with your whole heart.   It’s time to show up and be seen.’

Pictures are wonderful Janet, I love it. You know, birds are so beatufiul animals, they are so free and without worries. They have a great clothes and still they don’t pay attention on that at all. They don’t what they will eat, or drink. They just want to fly, and fly ! Thank you

Thank you Ben and yes, I love the freedom of birds….and as you say they don’t worry about all the things we humans seem to care so much about. Sometimes when I am going to sleep, I imagine myself as a bird flying and enjoying the world from many different points of view:) Janet.

This is an interesting one…because as you know my spelling sometimes wants….however, the English way of spelling armour is with the u….which I am quite sure is very confusing for those who are learning English. However, thank you for pointing this out 🙂 x

Yes, but you forgot the “r” in “Your amour”, which makes a very charming misprint, as “amour” is the French word for love…
        Very beautiful watercolours!

Oh this did make me laugh. Thank you so much for pointing that out. Shimon must also be having a chuckle. I am positively dyslexic..I probably baffle spell check quite often 🙂 Thanks for the reading and the comment. Janet

What was confusing for me was that you left out the first ‘r’ in armour, and that made it amour which sounds like lover…. and if we have the good luck to be distracted by a lover… then that’s a sort of creativity too.

Very well said, Janet. But I have the feeling that you’ve known that for a long, long time. I saw a hummingbird today, checking out some beautiful and very fragrant flowers, and thought of you. Thought of getting a shot of him too, but he was too quick for me. xxx

My friend Lynn Kearns in Georgia introduced me to this quote and as soon as I read it, I thought. Thank God I listened to this whisper from the universe when I was at the mid life stage. Now 72, I can honestly say it was the best advice I ever took 🙂 How lovely that you saw a hummingbird. When in Georgia recently what i Loved to do was sit quietly and observe their comings and goings. Such fascinating and amazing little creatures. Sending you hummingbird hugs – Janet xxx

Absolutely wonderful art. So beautiful! 💕
I love Brene Brown’s books and this quote of her is such a gem, great choice. 😊

The boldness of color and brush strokes here are the perfect accompaniment to Brene Brown’s wonderful statement about mid-life. You truly create and live and love “with your whole heart,” Janet — and that’s what I love about your art. Fantastic post, thank you.

    Dear Janet,
I think at times that probably my armor is less thick and impenetrable than that of most people. But other thimes I think it is thicker, and I have a long way to go to shed qualities that hold me back from biting into and savoring the succulence of life. Maybe today I will do it.

Thank you for the post. Lovely hummingbirds–the delicacy and the color.
    Best wishes,

Yes,your Freudian slip made for some amusing notions…armour and love are opposites in a way.I agree so much with ehat you say and how lovely you sat watching a hummingbird.I hope yoiur summer continues with gthe same koy and colour

Good morning Katherine….yes, it has been rather amusing. My spelling is atrocious…and so every now and then I come up with something like this:) To sit with hummingbirds is like enjoying a piece of Heaven on earth. Hope all is well with you and that the writing goes well….Enjoy these warm months. Janet xx
