Part of large symbolic mural commissioned for a public building in the States forty years ago. When I was commissioned to paint this mural forty years ago based on the theme that ALL OF LIFE IS INTERCONNECTED, climate change was rarely if ever discussed.
We believed that if we put a border or line around something, it would be contained!
We now understand that when we change one small part of anything, the whole is changed. We see in our world today the consequences of burying our collective heads.
Everything has changed since painting this mural – including me:)
It seems that we have been sleep walking as we have doggedly plodded on destroying so much in our paths.
Bigger cars, bigger houses, bigger planes, bigger resorts, bigger hamburgers, bigger cruise ships, big containers to ship all the crap that we continue to consume….and the list goes on ….
And even when we were STOPPED as was the case with the COVID 4 years ago!………..
WE QUICKLY RESUMED OUR MAD BEHAVIOUR……we didn’t miss a beat!!
With my son Jarrod in 1968.
This picture was taken two years after Rachel Carson’s prophetic book ‘THE SILENT SPRING….was published.
It is important to note that Rachel Carson was shut up by the large corporations who where just beginning to get their strangle hold on the world.
Weather events are happening worldwide at an ever increasing frequency…wake up everyone….

I agree, we have lots to learn from this. Trying to remain open. Your art inspires me to use this time creatively.
I am very pleased to hear that. This is an opportunity for us all to explore our creativity. I will be writing more about that. Janet 🙂
Some very wise words there. Stay safe xx

Great thoughts in these challenging times …and beautiful art too.
Thank you very much – Janet 🙂
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and beautiful paintings Janet. I agree that the virus can teach us things and help us slow down. I look forward to the virtual class with you. Hugs….🍊
thank you dear Brad….In the strangest of ways…these are exciting times. Hopefully we will learn so much about ourselves. Hugs to you:)X
That’s a beautiful perspective.
Reblogged this on Pete's Writing Life.
Thank you Peter:)XX
Beautifully said, we will learn from this and hopefully be less arrogant and wasteful. It shows how quickly humans can be eradicated from planet Earth who is already recovering. Hopefully more will now work from home and fewer use cars. Love the tutorial idea, looking forward to that. Take good care of you, my friend.xxx
Thank you dear Dina…yes let’s hope this brings some much needed changes to the world XXX
A beautiful example of truth!
Thank you – have a lovely day 🙂
Thank you, Janet. Woke up this morning remembering that during the night I dreamed of one of your watercolors with its briliant yellow. A lovely amd satisfying dream and way to wake up. All is well here: the whole family safe so far, but being unable to wor,k some of them are without an income, which is hard on them.
Even in the midst of this we laugh. We’re battened down, ordered by the governor not to leave the house, but I need a haircut bad, so Diana (my nickname for her all these years has been Don) sent away for haircut shears. She’s afraid she won’t do a flattereing job. And I say, “It’s not as if anyone will see me. Go ahead and cut it.” Now isn’t this what you teach your students: just cut that stuff out and pick up the shears and cut hair,
Stay safe and healthy dearest friend.. Thank you so much for the kindness you’ve shown our dear grandson Meir, a truly good human being. It means a lot to him to be in conversation with you.
He told me yesterday that he will love me no matter what I look like, Don tells me the same, of course. So let’s have that haircut,
Oh this did put a smile on my face….I need those sheers as well:). Somehow we will all get through this together….one day at a time. Sending love to you all and best wishes to Don in her new haircutting venture:) X
So beautiful …all of it
Thank you very much 🙂
