I have been aware during this past year that the words ‘Interconnectedness and mindfulness’ have become fashionable buzz words. For me their significance is immense and I hope to be mindful of their real meaning as I move into the new calendar year.
The following poem was brought to my attention by Jane Lukas. I met Jane in 1973. She became my surrogate Mother and wonderful friend – one whose influence and guidance is with me every day. Although Jane has left this earthly realm, she is always with me.
‘The man whispered, ‘God speak to me’, and a meadowlark sang.
But the man did not hear.
So the man yelled ‘God, speak to me’, and the thunder and lightening rolled across the sky.
But the man did not listen.
The man looked around and said ‘God, let me see you’, and a star shone brightly.
But the man did not see.
Then the man shouted, ‘God, show me a miracle’, and a new life was born.
But the man did not notice.
So the man cried out in despair.
‘Touch me God, and let me know you are here’
Whereupon, God reached down and touched the man,
But the man brushed the butterfly away, and walked on…………
My hope is that as I move through this new year I am mindful of each and every precious moment.
I wish everyone a year full of creativity, peace and joy.
